Up to 1988 Lincolnshire Fire Brigade had a fleet of predominantly
Bedford TL 1260 chassis with HCB body work. When Bedford closed they evaluated
other suppliers and adopted the Volvo FL614. The fleet is now almost exclusively
Volvo with only a few Bedfords remaining as spare trucks to cover service periods.
The truck is equipped with two pumps, one P.T.O. driven housed in the back locker
and a light portable pump housed in the front offside locker. The front nearside
locker is home to the R.T.A. rescue equipment consisting of a petrol powered
hydraulic pump and an assorted selection of rams and cutting equipment.
In 1998 Lincolnshire changed its B.A. sets to the Dreager PSS 500 which is a
very modern looking set that has its air supply stored in spheres rather than
the normal cylinders.
Another innovative idea adopted by the brigade was the replacement of the old
two way radio system with GSM phones this also took place in 1998. A full report
of the system and its implementation can be seen HERE.
